Food & Drink in Edinburgh

With the Atlantic on its doorstep, fresh mountain waters, lush rolling hills, fertile soil and varied weather, Scotland's abundant natural larder is renowned for its unrivaled quality. From Aberdeen Angus beef, Stornoway Black Pudding, Arbroath Smokies and Shetland salmon and shellfish to Scottish whisky, ales, scones, shortbread, not to forget haggis — Scotland is a culinary heaven for foodie lovers.

Choose from a hefty selection of outstanding and award-winning restaurants, cafes and bars. A plethora of diverse places to eat and drink certainly ensures that there will always be something that appeals to all manner of tastes and budgets.

But if you are the type who has already been to and have seen all of the usual places, you will most definitely want to stray off the beaten track and proceed to check out the city's latest openings and hidden gems. So loosen up your belt and prepare to taste your way around Scotland's great food!

Food & Drink in Yorkshire

The people of Yorkshire are immensely proud of all aspects of their county, especially their food and drink. There is certainly a lot more on offer than Yorkshire puddings! Yorkshire has a diverse landscape featuring cosmopolitan cities, pretty market towns, rugged coastline and the famous Moors and Dales, something which is reflected in the range of food and drink experiences on offer.

Famous for its sweet dishes such as curd tart or parkin (a type of ginger cake), it's no surprise that Yorkshire is where famous confectioners like Rowntree's, Terry's and Bassett's originated.

Today, some of Britain's best meat, cheese, beer and baked goods producers can be found in Yorkshire. There is no better place to sample them than in one of the many outstanding pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, or direct from the producer at a farmer's market or farm shop. Locals will also tell you that Whitby is the fish and chip capital of the world!

Food & Drink in London

London has long been a melting pot of people and cultures, and nothing illustrates this better than the city's diverse culinary and bar scenes—from Michelin-starred restaurants to innovative street food.

A plethora of exciting artisan producers work out of London, including gin distillers, craft beer brewers, and chocolatiers. Not only that, but you can find the best produce from across Britain at one of London's many food markets, such as Borough Market near London Bridge. Whether you have a hankering for artisan cheese and fresh bread, or fresh oysters and full-bodied wine, you'll find it at Borough Market. There are also plenty of options for vegans, vegetarians, and the gluten-free foodies too.

Home to many world-famous and up-and-coming chefs, London is truly a gourmet capital, boasting 66 Michelin-starred restaurants in 2017, more than Madrid, Rome and Berlin combined.

Food & Drink in Cornwall

A visit to the South West country of Cornwall never disappoints—not only is the region blessed with the best of the British weather, but also with some of the finest food and drink.

A journey along the coast will cover many picturesque fishing towns and present numerous opportunities to sample the morning's local catch, be it delicious oysters or crab, or traditional fish and chips. Head inland and you will find vineyards producing award-winning wines—happy to throw open their cellar doors to visitors—traditional pubs serving locally sourced food, beers and ciders (another specialty of the region), and grand country hotels offering superb fine dining experiences.

You can't visit Cornwall without trying a Cornish pasty, and there is no doubt that the most delicious cream teas can be found in this part of Britain.

Food & Drink in Wales

Hearty classics like Welsh cakes, bara brith, and cawl each represent a potted history of Wales and its culture. The country's traditional food is generally honest, hearty, and made with fresh seasonal ingredients.

Other famous dishes, like Glamorgan sausages and Welsh rarebit, reflect a time when meat was a scarce luxury. Ingredients like cockles and laver seaweed are used in abundance as well.

Modern Welsh cooking is about top-quality ingredients; cooked simply, to let natural flavors shine through. Indulge in lamb from mountains and saltmarshes, Welsh Black beef, Carmarthen ham, and abundant seafood. To wash it down, turn to ales from artisan breweries, Welsh wine, whisky, and gin, as well as plenty of fresh spring water.

Food & Drink in Cumbria

Cumbria's 'Lakeland' is staggeringly beautiful. The area's sparkling lakes, secret valleys, and picturesque stone-built villages have captivated generations of visitors and inspired many famous artists.

But aside for being famous as Britain's 'Lake District', Cumbria is renowned for locally-sourced and carefully-crafted Northwestern food and drink. It's simply a place where the cuisine represents the land itself. Famous culinary gems include Grasmere Gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding, and the aptly named Cumberland Sausage.

The Lake District also boasts the highest concentration of Michelin stars outside of London, cementing the area's reputation as a superb destination for foodies. Country pubs can be found in almost every corner, with many serving local beers like Loweswater Gold.

Testimonials
Unforgettable Experiences
"I was lucky enough to grow up in this buzzing seaside town where most of my fondest memories were spending weekends on the boats down on the harbor, eating the famous Marlboro fish and chips, or cruising through the cobbled streets with a cornish pasty. If you couldn't find me there, I'd be on the stone pier fly fishing."

Ryan Middleton, Graphic Designer

Born in Weymouth, Dorset, Ryan moved to America in 2008 to pursue a career in advertising and graphic design.
"Nothing brings out my inner Brit like having a spot of tea, and on my last trip to London I was so happy to have discovered B's Bakery, the cutest tea house on a corner between Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square. There are almost 20 different teas to try, served to you in beautiful mismatched china. You can order a full afternoon tea, or just enjoy a pot and a scone like I did."

Sarah Drill, Call Center Manager

Sarah was born and raised in Oregon, and has been enjoying life in the travel industry for 20 years.
"Wales is a truly beautiful place that reminds me of my home in the Northwest, but with so much more history. You can go on a road trip and visit cute country towns and fun coastal cities, take a rail trip up a slate mountain, and visit amazing castles all over the country! My favorite was Caernarfon Castle in Northwest Wales. I have never felt more at home while I was traveling there, and I certainly can't wait to return!"
