Hong Kong:

Private Lion Rock Hiking Tour via Public Transportation

Hong Kong presents some great opportunities to head off-road and into the wild and this experience is an opportunity for the more active and adventurous to explore one of Hong Kong's iconic hikes with a view.

Guests step off the bus and into an area that is home to exotic plants and monkeys instead of skyscrapers and people. Walking out of the main suburb you'll see macaque monkeys here, who were actually re-introduced to Hong Kong in the 1910s to eat the poisonous fruits of a plant found around the Kowloon Water Reservoir.

The hike follows a path through lush forests with panoramic vistas unexpectedly showing themselves now and again. The first view overlooks Stonecutters Island, the container harbor with huge volumes of industrial buildings. The next reveals Nathan Road, the railway and more residential and office districts. On clear days it is possible to see the skyline of Hong Kong Island. Later we overlook the former Kai Tak Airport, now fitted with a cruise terminal. Then at the foot of Lion Rock we have the choice of either climbing over it or to bypass on an easier path.

The climb up is steep and although steps are laid to make it easier, they are practically vertical and unevenly spaced. Your journey winds to an end as the trail leads into the road at Sha Tin Pass, from which you'll stroll down and exit the overgrowth, leading into the Wong Tai Sin district below.

In the cooler winter months, we can hike up to Lion Rock on a shorter but steeper path, coming up from the northern side, shortening the hike by one hour. The tour includes an English-speaking guide, one bottle of water, and local transportation as needed. Rest of the day at leisure.

Private Lantau Explorer Tour

Lantau Island is almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island and is one of the best loved outlying islands. The island is known for its unspoiled countryside, virgin hills and lush green valleys. With the new development of the Ngong Ping Cable Car and Ngong Ping Village, the island has become a new attraction in Hong Kong. En Route to Lantau Island, you will pass the famous Tsing Ma Bridge, the longest road/rail suspension bridge in the world.

Hop on the Ngong Ping Cable Car, Hong Kong's latest attraction that features a stunning 3.5-mile cable car ride up a mountainside on Ngong Ping 360. The 22-minute journey offers breath-taking panoramic views encompassing the airport, South China Sea, lush mountains and fishing village, and the awe-inspiring Giant Buddha statue.

The cable car takes you to the culturally themed Ngong Ping Village; you will have a chance to visit the World's tallest outdoor, seated bronze statue and explore the famous Po Lin Monastery nearby. The Monastery is home to a large bell that is rung 108 times per day to "relieve 108 vexations," so you're sure to feel better at the end of this excursion!
