Arrive Reykjavik:

Arriving into Iceland, the junction country for the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, you will be shuttled to your selected Hotel. After checking in you will have some free time to explore the city on your own.

Reykjavik:
Today in the afternoon join a Reykjavik City Tour by bus. In 2 1/2 hours visit the home of Iceland's president at Bessastadir and Hofdi, where US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev met to end the Cold War. Stop by the Perlan building, built on water tanks that hold the city's hot water supply. Here you can enjoy the spectacular view over Reykjavik and its surroundings. Last but not least, visit Hallgrimskirkja Church-- (the largest church in Iceland and one of its tallest structures) and the old town center, where the Icelandic parliament Althingi and the town hall are situated. After the tour, wlak through the main shopping street Laugavegur back to your hotel.

Reykjavik to Vik:
This morning, pick up your rental car and take the 2 1/2-hour scenic drive to Vik. Enjoy the scenery of the South Coast and stop at waterfalls along the way. Vik is the southernmost seafront village in Iceland, and you have the afternoon free to explore on your own. Be sure to see the Vik i Myrdal Church, a very photogenic small church that overlooks the village. Other sights worth seeing are the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and the Reynisfjall Cliff, which offers stunning views of offshore rock formations, the village, and nearby mountains.

Vik:

Drive to Myrdalsjokullsvegur and head to the base of the Myrdalsjokull Glacier, one of Iceland's most spectacular glaicers.A super-jeep will drive you up the mountain to the glacier. Here you will pick up the snowmobiles and take a guided ride to the top of the glacier. Guides will take you through safety procedures and equip you with special clothing and helmets (valid driver's license is needed). You'll have a one-hour snowmobile ride in the wilderness, experiencing the breathtaking views over south Iceland.

After your snowmobile adventure, return to your car and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Return to Vik for the night.

Return to Reykjavik & Departure:

This morning you'll experience a Hike on Solheimajokull Glacier, sitting atop of Katla Volcano. Extra winter clothing and safety equipment will be provided for you. After putting on the necessary materials and learning how to use the basic ice equipment, you will take an easy hike on the glacier (approx. 30-40 minutes). Discover incredible ice formations, ridges and crevasses along this opportunity to explore the natural and iconic landscape of Iceland.

After completing this tour, drive back to Reykjavik or Keflavik airport to return your rental car and continue on to you next Avanti Destination.
