Futaleufú is located in the Carretera Austral region of Northern Patagonia. Home to windswept valleys surrounded by snowcapped peaks, swiftly flowing rivers, and magnificent waterfalls, this is one of the most beautiful and untouched parts of Chile. Geographically isolated from the rest of Chile (it is in fact best reached from Esquel, Argentina), the pristine landscapes of Futaleufú are perfect for adventurous nature seekers, and are home to some of the best rafting locations in the world.
Here you find Pata Lodge, a unique accommodation and sustainability project on 252 acres of untouched wilderness. This tranquil and cozy lodge presents a vision of sustainability - they have crafted a place that focuses on natural preservation, organic farming, and education, as well as hosting adventurous travelers looking to explore its beautiful surroundings. The property is home to vast gardens, sheep farming, honey production, a greenhouse, a restaurant and interconnected pathways ready to be explored. Guests are invited to relax enjoying the natural scenery or opt for one of the various activities available, such as rafting or kayaking. Witness firsthand how this fully integrated "village" promotes the farm-to-table concept using only local and organic products.
The best way to get to this remote part of Chile is through Argentina. Fly from Buenos Aires to Esquel, then transfer across the border for an hour and a half journey to Pata Lodge. Located in an open valley surrounded by forested mountains and a wide bend of the famous Futaleufú River, Pata Lodge greets you with a laid back atmosphere. 6 cabins offer simple but high end finishes, wood burning stoves, and beautiful views. Relax, and enjoy a farm-to-table dinner in the open kitchen, while learning about sustainable farming and local ingredients.
In the morning, explore the grounds, visiting the onsite school or farm. In the afternoon, enjoy a rafting tour. This is one of the most well-known and commercially run sections of the Futaleufú River. We'll leave from our office in Futaleufú and head to the put in at the beautiful Chucao beach (near kilometer 35) to begin our adventure. Here, our guides will go over safety procedures and helpful rafting techniques. At this point you will receive all the necessary gear and equipment to comfortably enjoy this extreme sport in an amazing environment.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Pata Bistro, the organic farm-to-table restaurant where you will try delicious meals with a variety of local fruits and vegetables harvested from the farm. Learn about Pata's "smart villages" - self-sustaining villages being created as part of the project.
Later, you'll enjoy a trekking tour to Lonconao Lake. Not only will you enjoy the amazing scenery, but you will also have the chance to look for the majestic Andean Condor. Along this trail you will see Lonconao lake, Escondida Lake, the Azul sector, Sierra Teta and local Flora and Fauna.
After another morning exploring the grounds, go on a horseback ride. Ride with us through beautiful Patagonian landscapes, including forests and lakes. The options are varied depending on experience level and trip length.
After breakfast, transfer back to Esquel, and on to your next Avanti Destination!
