Arrive Karanki Magdalena:

Meet your driver at your Quito hotel (pre-night required). Departing from Quito, you'll drive across the colorful valleys of Guayllabamba and Cayambe. The breathtaking setting offers great photo opportunities before arriving in the province of Imbabura, known as the Ecuadorian Land of Lakes. You'll stop at the Otavalo Craft Market; a meeting place for exchanging local produce and textiles. For visitors, the markets offer the possibility to negotiate prices of a variety of woven goods, bags, hats and flutes.

Then ride through the marvelous Andean setting as we head into the indigenous community of Magdalena. Upon arrival, community members will demonstrate local planting techniques, including the materials and animals used to farm a variety of products including potatoes, quinoa, lupin, corn, beans, and other vegetables. Then enjoy a gastronomy lesson while the host family prepares a traditional lunch. In the afternoon, you have the option of a 2-hour mountain bike journey across beautiful mountain landscapes and Andean settings or horseback riding through a variety of moorland vegetation. Later, enjoy a delicious dinner made with local ingredients. In the evening, learn how to make Canelazo, a traditional drink made from cinnamon, which will warm you up as you sit by the bonfire. After this adventurous day, you'll retire to one of the homes of the local community for your overnight stay.
