Amazonas Jungle Lodges: Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica
A private ecological reserve and research center, Reserva Amazonica is located on the bank of the Madre de Dios River, 45 minutes by boat from Puerto Maldonado. The Lodge has 41 spacious thatched-roof bungalows, each with private bath and terrace with hammocks, built in the traditional style of the indigenous Machiguenga and Ese-Eja people. For relaxing and dining, the main pavilion includes a circular mezzanine with big balconies overlooking the Madre de Dios River. The Reserva Amazonica has its own private reserve of 24,710 acres.

Arrive Reserva Amazonica:

Transfer from your hotel in Cuzco to the airport for a 30-minute flight to Puerto Maldonado. Airport meet and assist, and transfer to the port for the 45-minute boat ride to the Reserva Amazonica. After orientation and lunch, enjoy a guided walk on the botanical trail near the lodge. Return to the lodge in late afternoon. After a relaxing dinner, take a night stroll along the riverbank to observe caiman and other nocturnal animals.

Reserva Amazonica:

After a tropical buffet breakfast, depart for an excursion to Sandoval Lake, one of the most important lakes in southeastern Peru. Rich in biodiversity, the Lake is excellent for wildlife viewing. It has a healthy population of the endangered Giant Otters, as well as Black Caiman, and many species of water birds. The lake is surrounded by Mauritia palms that shelter many species of monkeys. Spend a relaxing morning on a catamaran, paddling around the lake with your naturalist guide. Return to the Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit an indigenous cultivation plot within the local community to see typical Amazonian crops such as manioc, papaya, mango, cacao, and sugar cane. Visit Monkey Island (also known as Rolin Island) where Inkaterra operates a conservation project to reintroduce primates to their natural environment. After dinner, take a night stroll along the riverbank to look caiman and other nocturnal animals.

Reserva Amazonica:

After breakfast, board a pequepeque (a typical outboard motorboat) for an excursion to the beautiful Gamitana Ravine river gorge, located within the private Ecological Reserve. After a box lunch, try your hand at fishing, native-style. Return to the Lodge for dinner.

After breakfast, transfer by boat to Puerto Maldonado to connect to your flight to Cuzco or Lima.
