After you collect your luggage and clear customs you will be met outside the terminal by our local representative who will be holding a sign with your name on it. You will be transferred by van to Arenal, a scenic 3-½ hour drive from San Jose. The road winds through the picturesque little towns of Alajuela province and through rolling green hills of pasture land and coffee plantations. After going through the small town of Fortuna, you will soon have your first glimpse of the perfectly cone-shaped Arenal Volcano, which on a clear day is an unforgettable sight. Located at the foot of the volcano is beautiful Arenal Lake, a 24-mile long reservoir. Your transfer will end at your selected Arenal hotel. Overnight.

You have a free day to explore Arenal as you please. Perhaps you may relax and take in some spa treatments. For more active travelers, there are many additional tour options you can add on, including floating down lazy rivers while watching out for the prolific wildlife, to adrenaline-inducing mountain biking with volcano views.

After breakfast, depart for Monteverde. You will be transferred to the lakeshore of Arenal for a 45-minute ride by boat, where you will soak up your last views of the Arenal Volcano. From the dock, you will continue by mini-van. As you get closer to Monteverde, rolling green hills surround you, and on a clear day you can see the Gulf of Nicoya. Passing through the town of Santa Elena, and the Monteverde community with its hotels, restaurants and galleries, you will reach your selected lodge in the early afternoon. You will have the afternoon at leisure to explore the area.

Time for an unforgettable experience—a system of eighteen platforms suspended above the ground! Zip lines attached from one platform to another allow you to slide with the use of special equipment, through the inner forest. This tour gives you access to a world of incomparable beauty. Through jumping, flying and gliding, experience what it is like to be an inhabitant of the Cloud Forest Canopy. In the afternoon head to the renowned cloud forest reserve. A nature guide will take you along the well-maintained trails of this unique and world-famous reserve. Within the 12,000 acres of virgin cloud and rainforest there are over 2,500 species of plants, including 400 varieties of orchids, almost infinite varieties of fern, broad-leaf plants, bromeliads and other tropical flora and fauna. The resplendent Quetzal, the Two Toe Sloth, and the Mot Mot bird call Monteverde home.

After breakfast (between 8:30 - 9:30 am), transfer by van from Monteverde to the Guanacaste beach area. The four-hour drive will take you from the misty hills of Monteverde to the lowlands of the North Pacific, the driest region in the country. Here, you will see large cattle ranches. Continue to the coast to your selected beach resort in Guanacaste.
