Cayo District & Ambergris Caye
The Cayo District is your base for Mayan ruins and jungle adventures. The town of San Ignacio is the gateway to the Mayan sites of Caracol and Xunantunich, as well as Tikal in Guatemala. Adventure awaits you with options for ziplining, cave tubing, river kayaking, nature trails, and jungle exploration. Birdwatchers take note, there are many species of birds to add to your list. After 3 nights in the Cayo district, continue to Ambergris Caye for 4 days of fun on the beach. For water sports enthusiasts, there is world-class scuba diving and snorkeling. For fishing enthusiasts, there is the thrill of bone fishing in the shallow sand flats, or deep-sea fishing for marlin, sailfish and tuna. And if you aren't interested in water activities, you can just relax and explore the charming little town of San Pedro.

Arrive Cayo District:
Arrival meet and greet at the airport. Departure time for the shuttle service from Belize City to San Ignacio is 3:30 pm. (If you arrive into Belize City later than 2:30 pm, you will need a private transfer to San Ignacio, which would be an additional cost.) The scenic two-hour drive will take you from the mangrove swamps of the coastal area outside Belize City, through the savannahs of central Belize, to the green rolling hills of the Cayo District.

Cayo District:
Visit the ancient Maya city of Xunatunich for an opportunity to view original carved monuments depicting Maya rulers and warriors in their full regalia and journey 130 feet to the top of "El Castillo" to capture a panoramic view of the Belize River Valley. Then continue to Barton Creek Cave in Amish territory. Gently paddle your canoe into Xibalba (she-bal-ba), Maya for underworld. You will be dazzled by the glistening crystalline formations and awed by the Maya artifacts secretly tucked in overhead alcoves.

Cayo District:
Depart for Caracol, the largest known Maya center in Belize, covering about 75 square miles. After and hour and a half driving along dirt roads through the vast nature reserve of pine forest, you come upon a modern paved highway to Caracol. "Caana" meaning Sky Palace, the main pyramid at the site, features 4 palaces and 3 temples. At 141 feet, it is considered the tallest building in Belize - even to this day! Archaeologists deciphered that the ruling family of Caracol defeated Tikal and Narango. After exploring the site, you can dd on a swim and picnic at the Rio On Pools or Big Rock Falls.

Cayo District to Ambergris Caye:

Check out from your hotel and depart the jungle for the beach. Transfer back to Belize City, then take a short flight to San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye. Check in to your hotel and explore this laidback island.

Ambergris Caye:
A snorkel adventure awaits you at Hol Chan Marine Reserve (Maya for Little Channel), the first marine reserve established in Central America. Explore the colorful coral reefs as you swim amongst the abundant marine life. Next, you will head to your second snorkel stop, Shark Ray Alley, where you will encounter friendly stingrays, inquisitive brown nurse sharks, graceful turtles, as well as an profusion of colorful reef fish, including snappers and jacks.

Free day to explore San Pedro, Ambergris Caye at your leisure. Optional activities include Snorkeling or Barrier Reef Diving.
