Sin Dinero? No Problema! Budget Barcelona

The beautiful port of Barcelona is one of my favorite cities for food, shopping and architecture. Get your fill of tapas, cava, and architecture…you’re sure to fall in love with the works of Antoni Gaudi found throughout the city. Add in some of these zero-cost sightseeing ideas to your itinerary for a budget friendly vacation. Here are some of my favs:

Parc Guell: This park is distinctly Gaudi, with colorful mosiacs on the benches, fountains and spires. Sloping columns create surreal footpaths beneath the road above. The playful mix of color and form in this urban oasis exude whimsy and humor. The park is free to enter, but admission is required to enter “La Torre Rosa”.

The Magic Fountain of Montjuic: Every weekend there is a free display of dancing waters accompanied by music, color and lights. The show lasts for about 20 minutes and runs all year round (7- 8:30pm winter, 9-11pm summer). There are great views of the city from this hill, so needless to say you’ll be burning off all of those cava calories from the night before. If you are going up this way, you may consider visiting the Museu Nacional D’Art de Catalunya…which does have free admission on the first Sunday of every month.

Las Ramblas/La Boqueria Market: Visitors quickly learn how to navigate the city by landmarks such as Las Ramblas. Take a stroll along this pedestrian area where vendors sell crafts, souvenirs, flowers, snacks, etc. Just off of La Rambla is La Boqueria – a huge market famous for its fresh produce and seafoood. Connect to the Sant Antoni flea market on Sundays for a full day of shopping and snacking.

La Sagrada Familia: A must-see for any visitor in Barcelona! Though there is an entrance fee to visit, there are great views of the building from across the street.

La Barceloneta: A short walk from Las Ramblas, this sandy beach has many seafood restaurants, cafes and nightclubs. Perfect for sunny days, as there are plenty of places to sit down along the boardwalk and enjoy the views.
